Curtis,
Please accept my apology for the delay in responding. I wanted to
confirm a few facts before writing to you, and I now have the
information.
You might have heard that US PRO will soon close its doors. The one
thing that is keeping it in operation right now is the US TAG
responsibility, and we are finalizing plans for a new "home" for the TAG
(probably ATI or PDES, Inc.). That being the case, US PRO is not
putting IGES out for the 5-year systematic review ballot that would be
due to occur this year, and US PRO will soon cease selling the IGES
standard. All of this means that US PRO has no objection to your
working on IGES 6.0 if you wish. As we've discussed and you recognize
in your note below, US PRO has no resources available to help with the
IGES 6.0 effort.
In early May, Josh Lubell wrote to the PDES, Inc. long term data
retention team about your plans for IGES 6.0 and asked for their input;
I understand that he has shared the feedback with you. The responses
that I saw were from large-industry members, and they basically said
that they preferred for IGES to be left alone--an important part of
product data history, but not a current development concern and not
something that industry is likely to be using for long term archiving.
By the way, we've verified that your email address and the address for
Dennette Harrod on the IGESPROJ-L@aticorp.org exploder are current, and
you should be able to communicate among the IGES team using that method
for the foreseeable future. Note that you must be using the following
email addresses to send messages via the exploder (because these
addresses are the way that the exploder recognizes you):
dennette@WIZ-WORX.COM, parks@EEEL.NIST.GOV, and chparks@MDO.NET.
Best regards,
Lynn
